The beautiful Explorers Gallery hosted a variety of well known and new faces from the local cultural scene, our valued sponsors, as well as previous winners, including the legendary Peter Firmin, recipient of last year’s Canterbury Award.  New C0-Chair of Canterbury for Culture Liz Moran, welcomed guests, thanked sponsors and encouraged as many people as possible to enter the awards.  Entertaining attendees were the Rogers and Thorne jazz duo, whilst students from our prinicipal sponsor, Canterbury College, greeted and served guests, impressing everyone with their professionalism.

Canterbury College announced as Principal Sponsor for 2013 Awards

We are delighted to confirm Canterbury College as the principal sponsor for The Culture AwardCanterbury-College_1[1]s 2013.

Canterbury College is located in the heart of the city with approximately 10,000 students, 500 courses and 760 staff. It enjoys close working relationships with the District’s creative and local business and a high level of interest in Canterbury’s cultural activity.

The College offers a wide range of creative and cultural programmes, but equally across many other courses, students actively engage with cultural projects and activities as part of their studies or as extra-curricular commitments. The College annually hosts a number of cultural events of its own, from art exhibitions such as the John Millest Trust exhibition and the end of year FE and HE shows, to the College’s Cultural Festival which compliments the annual Canterbury Festival. The College also boasts the Lanfranc Theatre which enables students to experience a professional theatre setting whilst presenting public shows throughout the year. The College’s Graphic Design students also engage with local businesses and cultural bodies through the production of commissioned briefs and design projects, some of which become familiar brand images or retail products sold nationally.  Music students also demonstrate prolific success with regular World Skills UK finalists each year.

Director of Business Development Mark Hill says; “The College is very proud to be a sponsor of The Culture Awards 2013.  Our connections with the cultural scene in Canterbury are outstanding and we look forward to working with the awards and seeing their exciting culmination in June.”

Tim Deeson and Liz Moran, co-Chairs of Canterbury for Culture comment: “We are thrilled to welcome Canterbury College as our principal sponsor. Their support demonstrates their commitment and support to the local arts and cultural scene and we look forward to working, in particular with their students, to develop links and opportunities between the awards and the college.”
